Manuscript journal, corrected, in a single hand, probably a fair copy, narrating a trip by an unidentified French traveler to London in the fall of 1783. The author, who stayed with his "Giberne cousins" while in the city describes visits to St. Paul's, the Royal Exchange, Parliament, the British Museum, Westminster Abbey, Chelsea, Covent Garden, the Tower of London, and other London attractions. The diarist attended the installation dinner for the new Lord Mayor of London on November 10; the Guy Fawkes night celebrations on November 5; and a performance of Hamlet at Drury Lane Theatre, at which he found the gravediggers' scene to be "fort comique." In addition to descriptions of sights, the journal also contains a variety of observations on daily life in London, including comments on newspapers; shops and commerce; street paving and lighting; and costume. The diarist also visited Bath, Caterbury, Richmond and Hampton Court, and details the journeys, sights seen and lodgings at each as well.
